Individual and Family Therapy

Mateus Porter, LMFT, is a former college athlete and graduate of Pepperdine University’s esteemed Clinical Psychology program. With over 9 years of experience, Mateus has experience and a passion for working with at-risk children and adolescents, families (especially related to attachment, adoption, and foster issues), and individuals seeking personal growth and/or support.

Sometimes, life can give you anything from one unexpected lemon to a bucket of unexpected lemons and as a result people respond in various ways including: overwhelming thoughts, feelings of helplessness or lack of support, irritability, depression, anxiety, trauma symptoms, behavioral issues, suicidal thoughts, disruptions in attachment, relationship problems, sleepless nights, psychosis, and other feelings/experiences. As a client, you’ll work with Mateus on finding ways to reduce the issues that are present and seek a life without feeling out of control, hopeless, powerless, or just plain unhappy. Life does not have to be as difficult as it is right now. Partnering with Mateus will provide that extra support needed to turn the ‘sour’ into something sweet.

Fee: Individual $150/45-50min

Family $200/50min; $250/80-90min

Student-Athlete Consulting and Counseling

Mateus also specializes in working with student-athletes at all levels. Many times, the stigma of seeking mental health services prevents athletes from getting the support they need. Through discretion, knowledge, and personal experience, Mateus’ goals are to decrease the negative association of mental health with athletes and to reduce the number of “red flags” that impede student-athletes from reaching the next level of their academic and professional careers. As a former Division 1 collegiate-level athlete, Mateus understands the stresses and issues typically experienced by athletes including drug and alcohol use, anxiety, depression, inappropriate aggression, dysfunctional relationships(domestic violence or other issues), and pain management concerns, among others. Through consulting and counseling services, athletes will identify problem behaviors and work with Mateus to find new ways to cope with crisis situations, manage stress, and create positive personal and professional relationships. School staff, coaches, and parents will also work together with Mateus on decreasing the student-athlete's stress level and increasing their overall fulfillment in life.

Fee: Consulting/Counseling $150/session

Group Therapy

Group therapy can be a great supplement to individual therapy or it can be very helpful on its own for minor issues. During the summer months (June, July, and August) Mateus offers groups for middle school and high school age clients who may be concerned about the next transition in their lives. These individuals may be experiencing a change in behavior, anxious thoughts, feeling helpless or hopeless about the future, etc. These groups will be focused on processing the current emotions and thoughts of transition in addition to learning skills and having tools to assist the youth in the next stage of their lives.

Summer groups will have at least 3 members and at most 6 members.

GROUPS ARE POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. CHECK BACK FOR UPDATES!
