Mateus Porter is a man that strives to make the community better one person and one family at a time. Mateus was born and raised in the Bay Area of California and comes from a culturally diverse African-American & Brazilian family of 6. His compassion and inspiration for helping others comes from his mother and father, who taught him to love others regardless of race, beliefs, or any other differences.

After receiving his AA at The College of San Mateo, he played division 1 football at Old Dominion University on a full-ride scholarship.  There, he graduated with his BS in Psychology. In 2013, Mateus graduated from Pepperdine University with honors and earned a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology with an Emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy. Mateus came back to the Bay Area to give back to the community he was born and raised in.

Mateus’ experiences include work with probational youth, crisis intervention services, counseling for transitional age youth suffering from severe mental illness, work with foster children and their biological and foster families, and school-based therapeutic services. Additionally, Mateus specializes in individual and family mental health.  He can assist people of all ages suffering with acute stress, adjustment issues, depression, anxiety, bipolar, PTSD, issues with domestic violence, and schizophrenia. For family concerns, Mateus has provided parental coaching and school support for children suffering with behavioral issues, assessed mental health needs and risks, and facilitated healing in families that are hurting or struggling.

In his free time, Mateus enjoys exercising, spending time with friends, gardening, reading fictional literature, and being out in nature. He also loves cooking and trying culturally diverse foods. Mateus is thankful to have a strong support system, including his 3 siblings, and spends time with his 3 nieces and nephews regularly.
